Shining your Star – How Environments Increase Your Wealth

Posted on March 4, 2009

Each of us have star quality within us; it's a matter of finding the star and adding some shine to it.

Today when I talked with Kim McAtee about her experiences in TUG (The Ultimate Game), I really heard how she took some advice from her business coach and made it shine by applying it to her environments.

Kim has been a Realtor® with Coldwell Banker/Orinda for just over seven years and as a Realtor® myself, I can relate to the industry belief systems she mentioned.  The belief is that in order to make the "big" money, you need to be in the industry for 15-20+ years.  She had also been told that the goal of doubling her average sales price from one year to the next was "too aggressive" and a realistic goal was more like 10-15% growth.

Well thanks to The Ultimate Game, we learn to question all our belief systems.  It's as though we start to create new belief systems, or as Kim said "not to believe in your beliefs".  She decided to challenge that belief system and put some new environments in place.  One tool she instituted was listening to positive affirmations each day.  Consequently, she started to think of herself playing a much bigger game by changing her Self and Memetic environments.

Next, Kim sought out "for sale" listings of high-end homes ($4-6million) that she thought were spectacular for one reason or another.  She started calling friends, business associates and people in her database to ask if they knew anyone who might be interested in purchasing such a home. She explained that although she was not the listing agent, she would like to find a buyer for this "great house" and described the home and its features.  She even took several people to the homes so they could share her enthusiasm for the property.  She also explained her strategy to the real estate agents selling the homes, who were thrilled to have an additional person marketing their listing.  As a result, her contacts and her database began to see her as an experienced and knowledgeable Realtor® operating in the high-end market, thus she changed her Network and her Relationship environments.  Soon she was receiving referrals to people selling and/or buying homes in the $2-4million range.  As a result, her average sales price doubled from 2007 to 2008 and her goal is to double that number again in 2009.

As Kim said "The Ultimate Game gave me an environment in which I could step out of my comfort zone, be uncomfortable, and yet feel supported".  The Game took her to a new level.  Her environments are now created from a different belief system.  She adds, "The value in The Ultimate Game is being able to think in much broader terms, more expansively and in making connections with like-minded people.  I'm constantly surrounded by people who are headed in the same direction."

For Kim, the bottom line is knowing that your thoughts and beliefs affect the events in your life and that stepping outside of your comfort zone to upgrade your environments is crucial to your success.  It means being part of a larger game, The Ultimate Game.
