How To Change The World With A Viral Video
We just released our brand new video for The Ultimate Game of Life and we intend to literally "Change the World" starting with this video. So how can you do it too, or how can you help?
Well, by looking at a lot of videos that have made a big difference in our past we realized that there were a lot of similarities, so we started there....
1. Emotion- All of the videos we looked at "elicited powerful emotions." People all over the world buy on emotion, make decisions on emotion and take action....on EMOTION. Humans are emotional beings. It's one of the things that separate us from the rest of the animals in the world and what makes us truly unique.
That being said, this was a major factor for us. We wanted you to feel an emotional connection to the video, the message and ultimately take action upon your emotions because THAT action is what will truly change the world.
2. Energy- Another similar facet that we noticed in a lot of the viral, world-changing videos was ENERGY. The videos have lots and lots of energy or enthusiasm. You know, some of you may not know this, but the word "enthusiasm" comes from the Greek "enthousiasmos" which literally translates to "having the god within." To me, energy, enthusiasm and passion all translate through words, pictures and of course they translate extremely well through video!
When I worked as a sales manager at a finance company years ago I would always teach my reps this "transfer of enthusiasm," and low and behold our team consistently outperformed other teams, most of which were more tenured. If you feel energized at the end of the video you will also be much more likely to take action as well, which is the ultimate goal.
3. A Clearly Defined Message & Call To Action- Want to know why many businesses fail within the first 12 months? Well, for many of them it's because they do not have a clear enough defined purpose. They have a general idea of what they want to do and lots of ideas on what to do. This inevitably leads to confusion in your core business and you end up trying to do too many things. Anyone who has ever been part of a start-up knows exactly what I am talking about.
The same is true for your video. You have one chance to grab a person's attention, transfer the enthusiasm, elicit the emotion, drive home the message and get them to take one action. NOTE: I said 1 action, not 3, not 4, but 1 clearly defined action. Do not overwhelm your viewer, make it simple for them and they will respond if you did a good enough job with the first 3 pieces!
So from a general scope, those are the elements that we wanted to convey with the new Ultimate Game brand video, but it does not stop there, because there is still one key piece that needs to happen for this video, or any video, to actually change the world. People need to see it! I know, crazy idea right? But you would be surprised by the amount of people who spend all their time creating the best assets, businesses and videos and no one ever sees them. This is EVERYTHING! My colleagues are probably tired of hearing me say this, but Eyeballs Are EVERYTHING. So how do you accomplish it?
That's a bit more elaborate of an answer and I could probably write a few more posts on that alone, but you can start with asking people to share it and making it easy for them to share. Tell them to rate and comment on your video on Youtube. If you put it on a blog make it easy for them to like, or share on Facebook or Twitter. If you send an email (and you should) ask everyone to forward to at least 3 people. Imagine how it would spread if everyone just sent it to 3 people and it was actually good content? Amazing stuff can happen if you just ask, but the video has to be quality and has to provide real value. If it doesn't, then no one will want to share it and the viral nature of your project dies.
